So ends another year of the Ottawa Comic Con. Today, which also happens to be Mother’s Day, had a much better turn out then I thought. I took the day to take a good look at the vendors and artist alley. Picked up some beautiful artwork from Neal Adams, Geoff Isherwood, and other independent artists from around Ottawa. I got to meet the legendary George Perez again, and he was nice enough to do a beautiful Wonder Woman sketch for me.
Getting a sketch at a comic convention from your favorite artist isn’t something new. In fact, it’s one the best things of going to a con.
Here’s a video of Francis Manapul, artist and co-writer on ‘The Flash,’ doing a Supergirl piece with an ink wash at this years San Diego Comic Con. It is time lapsed, but you can see the detail and talent that goes into every piece of art.
Video was uploaded by Kyle Higgins, who is best known as the writer of “Nightwing” for DC Comics, and was a guest blogger for Hero Complex at SDCC this year. Check out his blog here.
Although Kara has had a very rich and interesting life within the DC Universe, one could make the argument that Power Girl’s life has been filled with even more controversy.
Power Girl (real name Kara Zor-L, also known as Karen Starr) is a DC Comics superheroine. She made her first appearance in All Star Comics #58 (January/February 1976).
One thing I have really enjoyed using since starting this website, is Photoshop. I’m not exactly an expert, yet, but it’s always fun to dabble a a bit an create some really fun pictures. Some of the work I’ve done so far has been with Summer Glau, and what she would like as Supergirl. You can see those galleries below.
DeviantArt has some of the most incredible artists in the world. One such artist is Torsor. His deviantArt page is packed with some of the most incredible artwork you’ve ever seen. Beautiful with vibrant colors, and amazing perfect pencil strokes on very picture.
This has got to be one of the most incredible pieces of Supergirl art I have ever seen. It’s a gorgeous and colorful rendition of the original Supergirl, drawn by Stephen Lane (Irishluffy) of deviantArt.
So nice I had to do it twice. After my first attempt at immortalizing Summer Glau as Supergirl in Supergirl Summer – Part 1, I figured I would give it another try. You can also check out my in depth article on Summer Glau right here. Summer voiced Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DC Animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.
To find out more information about Summer Glau, check out the Summer Glau Wiki at http://summerglauwiki.com/. A great and informative website, updated daily, with news, pics, appearances, and a huge community of Summer Glau fans. Your best source for all things Summer.
As mentioned in another article I did on this site, I love how much Summer Glau embodies the very characteristics of Supergirl Kara Zor-El. But what are words without a picture to back it up. As they say, pictures speak a thousand words. So what would Summer Glau look like in a Supergirl outfit?
